Valley View Tigers defeated the Rio Grande City Rattlers last night 61-38 with Miguel Garcia leading the team with 18 points. The game was close through the 1st quarter as Rio scored with back to back 3’s to keep the game close. During the 2nd quarter, Valley View’s defense was determined to extend the lead, and so they did. We held Rio to only 2 points in the second quarter to open up a halftime lead of 23-14. The Tigers came out a little sluggish in the 3rd quarter as Rio yet again battled their way back into the game cutting the lead down to 30-27 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. After a timeout to regroup our kids, Valley View ran the tables the rest of the game as we finished with a 31-11 run to closeout the game. Rudy Gomez filled in for his brother Rick Gomez(out with a concussion injury) scoring 16 points. Chris Castillo tallied in 8 points, David Ruelas 5 points, Cris Cavazos 4 points, Carlos Batiz 4 points, Carlos Limon and Marcos Campos both with 2 points each. Valley View is now 3-4 in district and alone in 4th place for the final playoff spot behind Edinburg Vela, Sharyland Rattlers, and Mission Veterans. Our next game will be on January 30, 2015 here at Valley View High School at 7:30pm. We look forward to your support and hope to see you there.
